From September
2010 onwards all quotes in blog entries will
be included in
this coloured font. I have done this on my Sheep website and I think it makes it so much easier to identify quotations. In some entries there are a good number of quotations and it can get confusing. October 17th Well I have made an effort to write in my blog this month after a two month absence, firstly with a request to sign a petition and in a day or two to include some great computer artwork by a suffer of AS. As a suffer of OCD I am aware of course that others suffer also, I am not into my own suffering and oblivious of the appalling suffering of both human and non humans, hence my animal rights website and the requests here from to to time for help to sign petitions. The plight of the millions who go hungry is of great concern to me and from time to time I like to include on my blog a request for you to sign a petition. So today I am asking you to please consider signing petition below: One of the great injustices of mankind is that of allowing millions of people to die of hunger. In the coming months as many as 70,000 people in Somalia could die. In the last three months 30,000 children have already died and 12 million people are at risk. Please take action today to prevent the deaths of thousands of people Please watch the short video " The F Word: Famine is the Real Obscenity” and sign the petition which will be sent to world leaders at the Group of 20 (G20) Summit in November, they have the opportunity to break the cycle of famine. act.one.org/sign/hungry_no_more/ For more information continue reading from One's website I hope you’ll take a few minutes to watch ONE’s new video “The F Word: Famine is the Real Obscenity” and sign the petition. Dear world leaders, The famine in Somalia could kill 750,000 in the coming months, and tens of thousands have already died. When you meet at the Group of 20 (G-20) Summit in November, you have the opportunity to break the cycle of famine and ensure people are hungry no more. Lives are in your hands. Please keep the promises you have made to the 2 billion poor people who depend on farming for their livelihoods. The reasons for the famine in the Horn of Africa are complex and solutions are difficult, especially in Somalia, but we can’t lose sight of some simple facts: 1. 30,000 children have died in just 3 months. Thirty thousand. With over 12 million people at risk. 2. Famine is not a natural catastrophe – drought doesn’t have to lead to famine. It can be prevented, as we’ve seen in much of Kenya and Ethiopia. In the 21st century, it’s an obscenity that people are dying because they can’t get enough food to eat. Every one of those 30,000 children is part of a family – a son, a daughter, sister or brother. We can’t imagine what it must be like to starve to death, but most of us know what it’s like to lose someone we love. Please watch the film and make use of the voice you have -- sign the petition. It will make a difference in putting pressure on world leaders to do more to help those in need right now, and live up to promises already made to invest in the things proven to work – early warning systems...irrigation...drought resistant seeds… and of course, peace and security. Thanks! The film is produced by One International a grass roots grassroots advocacy and campaigning organization that fights extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa, by raising public awareness and pressuring political leaders to support smart and effective policies and programs that are saving lives, helping to put kids in school and improving futures. Now please sign the following related petition concerning the broadcast of the video you have just watched Petition to lift ban on famine video ONE's new public service announcement 'The F Word: Famine is the Real Obscenity' (see entry above) has been banned from being broadcast in the UK. Please sign a petition which directly concerns the a ban on the broadcast on British television of the above video that focuses the world's attention on the famine and food crisis in the Horn of Africa, aiming to save millions of lives from slow, cruel starvation. Please sign the petition Please click the link below for more information and to sign a petition asking those responsible to lift the ban and allow ONES film to be broadcast Take Action Link http://www.care2.com/go/z/e/AgUx1/zLjA/DPco
October 18th Today I have included in the gallery section of the website an artistic contribution sent in by a sufferer of AS, anxiety and depression. The contributor hopes that his art work will help against the struggle to save the health service, which the present government are keen to destroy making medical care available only to those who have the money to pay for it. Which will not be people who are too ill to work of course or the unemployed or low paid. Here is a sample of one of four graphics:
To access the remaining three graphics and a larger size click the link below which will take you directly to Cameron: NHS Stamps The graphics are free to use for anyone who wishes to use them on websites, in leaflets, as posters and so on in support of preserving the NHS as a free health care service available to all without charge. October 19th With reference to the previous entry For international visitors or indeed anyone else who is not familiar with the NHS here is some information
Since its launch
in 1948, the NHS
has grown to
become the

health service.
It is also one
of the most
efficient, most
egalitarian and
most
comprehensive.

It is with one hell of a struggle that I am back here to
blog. I am just so ill now with so many conditions that everything is much more
difficult now than it was, though it was never easy. In the last three
months or so I have two new diagnoses. Those who have read my blog and the
information on my website know that this is in addition to the mental health
problems of OCD, depression, hypochondria and AS (although the latter is
strictly speaking not classified as a mental health problem and neurological but
than again so is OCD and depression) and a number of physical conditions the
most debilitating of which are migraine and tension headaches but also
fibromyalgia and IBS. Now to add to the mix of misery I have in recent months
been diagnosed with arthritis in the jaw!!!!! Can you imagine how I felt when
the doctor told me this after umpteen trips to the surgery with an ear infection
that could not go away despite several courses of antibiotics. The ear ache is
of course a result of the arthritis. So now I have a new kind of head pain which
of course will not stop at ear ache but causes a new type of headache,
toothache, pain and soreness in the throat like an infection even pain in the
shoulders and the eyes and goodness knows where else. I am told it will be
intermittent but most days there is some pain somewhere in these areas and
sometimes severe headaches. It is painful and scary for a hypochondriac because
there are so many areas and the pains are so different each time and I think I
have something even more awful. Not that this is not bad enough as of course
this is in addition to having migraine and tension headaches. Than a few weeks
later with a new headache which I assume is the arthritis I am told I also have
nerve pain or one doctor called it neuralgia although from what I have read it
does not seem to fit but still that is what they say. The arthritis in the jaw I
am told is rare and it is difficult to find information about it even on the net
without scaring myself half to death by picking up information about other
horrendous arthritic rheumatic conditions. It's hell, my life is hell, an
absolute
misery. I struggle on without much help or sympathy . My There is really not a lot of treatment accept pain killers but as a sufferer of chronic daily tension headaches too many painkillers will cause what is known as a rebound headache. So I continue for now to take only my diclofenac for migraine and the other pains I simply have to bear. I have a Tens machine but not really sure it is doing much of anything. I was prescribed Amitriptyline but am sacred of the side effects, the most worrying of which is glaucoma so I have not taken any yet. Yes it is an antidepressant but in small does it is supposed to relieve about fifty percent of chronic pain Anyway that is my situation . I am much more depressed, no surprise there of course. My OCD is much worse, amongst other things it is limiting more and more what I can write here or anywhere I am weary and depressed, sick of this miserable world with all its suffering, mine other people's and animals. The greed and selfishness, the callous indifference to the wretched lives that others lead and how we treat the other species with whom we share this planet. Sometimes I am ashamed to be human. It is difficult even for a well person to be happy these days, well or not I can't imagine ever being happy in this world full of misery, suffering, selfish greed and the ongoing exploitation of each other, other animals and the planet. These things are big issues for me and effect my mood, why wouldn't they . If you are happy in a world full of suffering you either have a way of setting it aside, and that really must take some doing and I envy you in some ways yet I would rather be depressed than live a life of callous disregard for the universal suffering that pervades every facet of existence, or you simply don't give a dam. I imagine that there are few in number who do not care to some degree, after all not to give a dam on any level would make you a psychopath would it not. Most people care about something but it is the degree to which they do so that effects their lives, their mood and their well being. It is also dependent on the action they can take or otherwise. Frustration and the feelings of helpless in the wake of the seething mass of misery that pervades the earth, much of which is caused by or is made worse by human beings, is depressing. It depresses me at least. I am hoping to begin a blog about social issues, animal and human rights, politics and gripes of all kinds but this takes a lot of doing and my health is not good. Yet it is something I need to do. I will be practising here if that is the right word, and add a few entries which I have written about these issues and see how I cope. Yes it may seem off topic but that depends on how you look at it. We are not simply our OCD, depression, AS, agoraphobia or whatever, we are people with opinions and ideas and a world view just like anyone else. Whether such rises as a result of our conditions remains to be seen, who knows, these conditions are I think and have always thought neurological and many now in the medical profession consider that this is so. Whether this means that all we are, all we think, feel and experience arises from the way our brains are wired is a big question both scientifically and philosophically. Whatever, it is time we shared more of our thoughts and feelings about other issues rather than to be continually focused on our mental health conditions. Yes I know nothing I will say will make a difference but if nothing else it may relieve some frustration and in the end who knows. In this day and age many have an opportunity to have their say as never before and much as changed in the world because of the internet and the power of communication. On-line activism is about the best I can do and that is not easy with OCD and the pain with which I suffer both of which in their own way effect what I can do in ways that few people really understand And now my back hurts like hell after all that writing, what a life!
